The Springs is the only warm mineral spring in Florida. It's water has the highest mineral content of any warm springs in the world, evem more that the famous spas in Vichy and Aix les Bains in France, Baden Baden in Germany and the Hot Springs in Arkansas.
It is a water-filled, hourglass shaped sinkhole. It is about 80 yards in diameter and 230 feet deep where warm, heavily mineralized water enters from regions far below.
The Spring's 87 degree water can provide relief for muscular problems, arthritis and rheumatism. A curiosity of The Springs is that the water contains no dissolved oxygen, except at a layer of 15 or 20 feet thick at the surface, where some garfish and a few minnows manage to live.
Some say The Springs was the spot Ponce de Leon searched for, fought for and died for, believing that here, indeed, was the Fountain of Youth.
In the second photo the green plaque (which you can't read) says....
THE ORIGINAL FOUNTAIN OF YOUTH

Hi Vickie...I have been there and it really is quite amazing isn't it? I don't know how I have missed your blog, but I live pretty close to that blue bicycle rack! I am just catching up with all of your lovely posts.
Great post, interesting photos and information! Thanks for sharing. Would enjoy a visit there!
Hi Vicki---I used to live in Venice (south of Sarasota) back in the '70's. I have never heard of those Warm Mineral Springs. That is so neat!!!!
Hugs,
Betsy
I LOVE your banner photo. Those springs are interesting. I could do with a glass of that now.
This is a fascinating post about a very interesting spring. I wonder if it is the Fountain of Youth?
I could really use a dip in that water. I know were I'm heading if I ever make it down there.
:-)
Sounds like a great place to spend an afternoon! :)

I never knew that there was anything like this in Sarasota, Vicki. It sounds like a wonderful place to visit, I will keep it in mind, thanks.
Funny how some people live frever, I certainly would not seeing where the world is going and how quickly we are destroying it.
Great informative post for That's My World. Many people who even live in this area don't know about it.
How great to know! Did you go in!?

What a great place. I love to soak in natural hot springs. Plus caving would be cool, if it's in the oxygen zone. Great post.
